In the previous article I had discussed 5 ways of boosting your dull mood. In this article we will look how we can bring about a change in our diet to boost our hormones; dopamine and serotonin. These hormones are generally called happy hormones. As they boost the happiness

Dopamine is involved in reward, motivation, memory, attention and more process. When this is released in large amounts it creates pleasure and motivates our specific behavior.

Similarly you may come across terms like serotonin, tryptophan, phenylepinephrine etc. for a common mind these are a little too much.

1. PROTEINS: Proteins are really essential to make your dopamine function well. Proteins are made up of amino acids. Tyrosine is one kind of amino acid which helps in production of phenylalaline. Oh! You want the recipe right?

Breakfast: Eggs and dairy

Lunch: beef

Mid evening snack: legumes

Dinner: Soy foods

2. LESS SATURATED FAT CONSUMPTION: You require to consume less of palm oil, coconut oil instead go for mustard, sesame, groundnut oil. There is no harm in consumption of coconut or palm oil but make sure you take them in minimal levels. As these two disrupt dopamine signals if taken in large quantities. 

Foods to avoid in large quantities: animal fat, butter, full-fat dairy, mayonaise, ice-cream, cheese, cakes, processed meat and fried food.

3. PROBIOTICS: Our gut is called our second brain. Gut functions are correlated with our nervous system as gut has large number of nerve cells in them. 

4. Vitamins, minerals, iron, niacin, folate, vitabin B6…… consume raw fruits and vegetables as much as possible.

5. Drink water not less than 2L per day. Dehydration has many effects, mood swings is also one of the effects.

SUPERFOODS

Apple, banana, strawberry, watermelon, dark chocolate, pumpkin, flax, sesame seeds, almonds, walnuts, eggs, beetroot, salmon, beef, leafy vegetables, olive oil……
