Review of SPEED POST
SPEED
POST by Shobha De
This is
a really amazing book I have read so far. It is about the confessions of a
mother to her six children via writing letters to them. It contains six
chapters with catchy taglines which provokes the reader to read ahead and find
out what must be within the chapter. The book attracted me in the first few
lines itself as the opening goes “Letters
to my children about living, loving, caring and coping with the world”.... “For
a life-sentence of hard but joyful labour”.
The author clearly justifies her
actions and explains the context behind each of her significant behaviour. Even
though her eldest son who is a step son, she treats him equal dignity here and
has brought about the best ever possible attribute to his character. Each page
of the book while flipping gives us a reminder of how our mother’s have toiled
hard to bring us up. The dedication to her children via this book makes each
and every one of us ponder the way we are with our parents and how our future
progenies would be.
The dear part where she compassionately
calls her children like “bacha log”, “bachaas” though being a colloquial
language brings a smile to the reader when we continue to read the letter
addressed. The best part in which I fell
in love was the way the author has given importance to all the tiny aspects of
life. Especially the driver which their family had and how he had become a part
of their day to day life. And his loss was so saddening to read.
The frankness of the author not
only to her children while confessing but to the whole world is an admirable
attribute to the world who read her works. Moreover this is book is rated best
by me because it is a wonderful reflection of collection from the life
happenings of the author. To conclude this is the best ever book where elders
can gift to the young generation for it consists the element of the different people’s
role expressed in our life time. The worth of each person in this book makes
one ponder we must be thankful enough to each person who crosses our life.
